Callistemon (3y/o filly by Territories out of Hariata) took home first place after she won the 900 metre maiden race with apprentice, Jess Del Frari on board.
It was nice to see her break through to win her maiden, having always been around the money in majority of her starts. This win now has her record standing at 1 win, 3 seconds and 1 third placing from just the 7 starts to date.
After travelling about mid field for most of the run, and after turning into the straight, Callistemon was tasked with chasing down the tear away leader, to which she did. She showed a lovely little acceleration and got her nose down in the shadows of the winning post.
