Close Encounter was able to take out the 1300 metre BM68 race at his home track of Kembla Grange on 22 January 2026 with gun rider and our very own apprentice, Rebecca Bronett-Prag.
It was a dominant win, by both horse and jockey. You could see how much they both wanted it in the final 100 metres.
It was a successful day for all runners yesterday, with Kerry commenting:-
“It’s a relief, and all our horses ran well today.. But I was really pleased for Rebecca.. That’s her first win for me, and she gave Close Encounter a beaut ride,”…
“Rebecca made a decision to put the horse at the heels of the leader Smart Serenade rather than sit wide early, and it proved a winning move”…
“Rebecca has ridden more than 80 winners, including a couple in town last year on Knight’s Armour, and considering her experience, her 3kg claim at the provincials is very beneficial”…
“She deserves more opportunities.” (provincialracingnsw.com.au)
Close Encounter was so deserving of this win. He always tries hard and it’s so pleasing to get another win on the board for his wonderful owner, so huge congrats to you!
Big thank you and congratulations to Rebecca. Likewise, always thanks and congrats to my staff.
