Virgilio Breaks Through For Maiden Win

Feb 05, 2017

It was a particularly pleasing win for the Parker stables when 3 year old, Virgilio, broke through for the first win of his career, in the Events@the Entertainment Grounds Provincial & Country 3YO Maiden Plate over 1100M at Gosford.

Any winner is welcome, but with the son of Snippetson being raced and bred by Mr Albert Nocera, one of the stables most long standing and loyal owners, there was an extra spring in everyone's step as connections headed to the mounting yard the greet their winning charge.

The gelding looked  in a bit of trouble after starting slowly, but jockey Blake Shinn rode patiently and waited for the perfect moment to push out and make his run as the field approached the turn.  He had plenty of horse beneath him,  and the well supported even money favourite hit the lead in the final 100M and won by one and three quarter lengths, easing down.

It was an eye catching win, and the manner of which it was done suggest that it won't be his last:
