Maresca (Shamus Award x Witches Hat) has notched up her second win this preparation after taking out the 900 metre BM58 race at Queanbeyan on 26 February 2023. Jockey, Brendan Ward took the steer, jumping from barrier 3 and carrying a weight of 56.5 kilograms.
The speedy field set the turf alight after the gates crashed back. Our girl Maresca showed some great early speed to make sure she had the best chance of staying out of traffic and getting some clear running room down the run home to the winning post. Brendan was able to get her into a lovely position and the mare put the pedal to the metal on the swing into the turn.
We are very pleased watching her knuckle down especially over the last 50 metres. The way she stuck her neck out on the line was very impressive and she seems to be going through her grades nicely.
